This 1/10 scale bust is of a sergeant from the WAAF in the role of an operations room plotter.
during the Battle of Britain, the operations rooms were air traffic control centres where all enemy flights would be plotted on large table maps, indicating the unit strength and direction. this enabled RAF fighters to be despatch to intercept them.
the role of the plotters was to keep in contact with the observer corps and continually update the maps with details of the enemy flights.
she is depicted wearing the headset which enabled her to communicate with the observer corps.
The bust has 6 parts: head, torso, base, mouthpiece and a length of twisted wire for the headset cables and a second length of wire for the main connection running down form the unit.
